Down Syndrome is a genetic disorder caused by the presence of an extra copy of chromosome 21. It is also known as Trisomy 21.
Common physical characteristics of individuals with down syndrome
- Small, Flat Nose
- Short Neck
- Abnormal Shaped Ears
- Almond- shaped eyes that slant upwards and outwards
- Small mouth with a protruding tongue
- Short stature and small hands and feet
- Hypotonia (low muscle tone)
- Development delays, such as delayed speech and language development and motor skills
- Intellectual disability
- Heart defects and other health problems.
