Down Syndrome

Down Syndrome is a genetic disorder caused by the presence of an extra copy of chromosome 21. It is also known as Trisomy 21.

Common physical characteristics of individuals with down syndrome

  • Small, Flat Nose
  • Short Neck
  • Abnormal Shaped Ears
  • Almond- shaped eyes that slant upwards and outwards
  • Small mouth with a protruding tongue
  • Short stature and small hands and feet
  • Hypotonia (low muscle tone)
  • Development delays, such as delayed speech and language development and motor skills
  • Intellectual disability
  • Heart defects and other health problems.
